QuantActions AG (www.quantactions.com) is a data science company based in Zurich, Switzerland. QuantActions offers a digital health platform for capturing and analyzing regular touchscreen interactions of smartphone users, to detect important indicators related to mental/neurological health. Privacy is important to QuantActions and to its customers. This privacy policy will explain how our organization uses the data we collect from you when you use a QuantActions App (TapCounter (Android), TapCounter (iOS), Recharge Yourself, BrainAware), our websites or enter personal correspondence with us.

Do additional terms apply to this General Privacy Policy?

  • If you are not a participant of a specific data collection program, then this General Privacy Policy ONLY is applicable.
  • If you are a participant in a data collection program, please see in addition the program-specific privacy conditions attached to the TapCounter App under Privacy Policy.
  • If you are participating in multiple data collection programs, then all of the program-specific privacy conditions are applicable.

You participate in a data collection program if you have installed the TapCounter App and completed registration by copying and pasting a valid participation ID into the app or by scanning a QR code.

What do we collect?

QuantActions collects the following data through:
QuantActions Android Apps:

  1. The model of the mobile device on which the QuantActions Apps are installed.
  2. The timing of each touchscreen interaction, including time zone.
  3. The names and launch times of the apps run on the mobile device.
  4. The battery log of the mobile device.
  5. Usage patterns, and performance and stability indicators of the QuantActions Apps themselves.
  6. Optional: Year of birth and gender.
  7. Optional: If users consider themselves healthy. (Recharge Yourself and BrainAware apps only)
  8. Optional: Journal entries. (Recharge Yourself and BrainAware apps only)
  9. Type of activity (walking, running, cycling, moving in a vehicle), incl. time of start and end of activity. (TapCounter only)

QuantActions iOS Apps:

  1. The model of the mobile device on which the QuantActions Apps are installed.
  2. The timing of each touchscreen interaction on the provided keyboard, including time zone, timing of the ‘delete’ key, if you swipe or use autocorrection.
  3. The label of the app in which the provided keyboard is used.
  4. The battery log of the mobile device.
  5. Usage patterns, and performance and stability indicators of the QuantActions Apps themselves.
  6. Optional: Year of birth and gender
  7. Optional: If users consider themselves healthy. (BrainAware app only)
  8. Optional: Journal entries. (BrainAware app only)
  9. Optional: Motion Usage data from the CoreMotion API (includes raw accelerometer, pedometer, gyroscope, etc), including MotionActivity (such as walking, on a car, on a train, …). (TapCounter app only)
  10. Optional: Health Update data from the HealthKit SleepAnalysis API (TapCounter app only)


All QuantActions Apps collect data anonymously only. We never record any user-generated content outside of the QuantActions Apps and do not collect any information that relates to an identifiable person. For example, the QuantActions Apps DO NOT collect credit card details, DO NOT collect text or numbers typed into keyboards, DO NOT collect the websites visited and DO NOT collect the screen coordinates of taps.

Personal correspondence:

  • Personal identification information (name, email address, phone number, address, etc.)
  • Information that you provide when you apply for a role. This includes information provided through an online job site, via email, in person at interviews and/or by any other method. In particular, we process personal details such as name, email address, address, telephone number, date of birth, qualifications, experience, information relating to your employment history, skills experience that you provide to us.
  • In case of app support, it may be necessary for you to send us your device ID via email. By sending us your device ID, we will receive a link between your person (email address) and your data.

How do we collect your data?

You directly provide QuantActions with most of the data we collect. We collect data and process data when you:

  • Sign up to the QuantActions Apps.
  • Place a quote request or order for our services.
  • Contacting us, for example by sending us an email.
  • Voluntarily complete a survey or provide feedback e.g., via email or survey form.
  • Use or view our websites via browser’s cookies.

Our Company may also receive your data indirectly from the following sources:

  • The following Firebase services integrated into the QuantActions Apps: Firebase A/B Testing, Firebase Cloud Messaging, Firebase Crashlytics, Firebase Dynamic Links, Firebase Hosting, Firebase Performance Monitoring.
  • Google Analytics when visiting our websites.

How will we use your data?

QuantActions Apps:

  • Your data is routinely uploaded in encrypted form to the secure cloud-based platform operated by QuantActions.
  • All our IDs (participation ID, study ID) generated by the cloud are entirely random and the device ID is generated by the QuantActions Apps.
  • Data processing occurs in an anonymized form. No personally identifiable information is ever processed in the cloud.
  • Monitoring battery log (4.) is used to improve our products and services.
  • QuantActions processes the data to learn behavioral patterns and to develop new methods to quantify touchscreen actions.
    • Your mobile device model number (1.) is used to adjust the touchscreen measurements for accuracy and correctness.
    • The timing of touchscreen interactions, incl. time zone (2.), the apps usage patterns (3.), the optional information about year of birth and gender, (6.), health status (7.) journal entry events (8.), motion usage/type of activity (9.), and health update usage (10.) are further analyzed in anonymous form to learn and measure human behavior in general.
    • Personal text notes on journal entries are not further processed by QuantActions. This data is only collected and stored to ensure synchronization between paired devices.
  • The learnt patterns and the methods may be sold to a third party, but without any personal identification.
  • Your anonymized data may be shared with the scientific community to further investigate the basic understanding of human behavior.
  • Your anonymized data may be used both internally for product and service improvement and externally for stakeholder demonstrations.
  • Usage patterns, and performance and stability indicators of the QuantActions Apps themselves (5.) are collected through Firebase by using device identifiers only. Data is collected for the purpose of improving the products and services only. We do not share this data with any third-party. See also How Google uses data when you use our apps.

If you are taking part in a data collection program using the QuantActions platform:

  • QuantActions forwards the raw data to the third-party partner in whose study you are taking part.

  • The third-party partner’s study manager holds the de-anonymize keys, to find the person-to-ID-to-device links. The study manager is solely responsible for the usage of these keys and may not share the link to the individuals with any third party, including QuantActions.

  • QuantActions is not responsible for reading any information sent to the database using the “Notes” feature in the TapCounter App. This feature is only operational when participating in a specific service or study which uses voluntarily written notes.

  • QuantActions strives to make science more transparent and thus more reliable and efficient. For this reason, we require the third-party partner in whose study you participate to release your anonymized data to the public, either through publication or release to academic repositories.

  • Process your quote request and/or order, manage your account.

  • Email you with special offers on services we think you might like.

  • To review your application in relation to a job for which you have applied and in relation to other jobs in order to find suitable candidates for our vacancies and communicate with you regarding the recruitment process.

  • If you send us your device ID during an app support, we will only use it to process your request. We will delete the device-ID and person to data link once your request has been successfully completed. This makes your data anonymous again.


When QuantActions processes your order, it may send your data to, and use the resulting information from, credit reference agencies to prevent fraudulent purchases.

How do we store your data?

QuantActions Apps:

  • Your data is securely stored in Frankfurt (Germany) by Microsoft Azure. There is no personally identifiable information on our servers.
  • Microsoft complies with the data privacy laws in all countries and territories in which they operate. Further information can be found under the following link: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/explore/trusted-cloud/privacy/
  • As your data may be linked to broad environmental and anonymous behavioral databases, your anonymized data is archived for current and future research.

  • Your data is encrypted and kept in a secure storage server located in Switzerland.
  • QuantActions will keep your personal identification information for 5 more years after the last contact. Once this time period has expired, we will delete your data.

Marketing

QuantActions would like to send you information about services that we think you might like. If you have agreed to receive marketing, you may always opt out at a later date.
You have the right at any time to stop QuantActions from contacting you for marketing purposes. If you no longer wish to be contacted for marketing purposes, please email data@quantactions.com with the subject heading ‘STOP MARKETING’ in the subject line of the email.

What are your data protection rights?

QuantActions would like to make sure you are fully aware of all of your data protection rights.
You are entitled to the following:

  • The right to access – You have the right to request QuantActions for copies of your personal data.
  • The right to rectification – You have the right to request that QuantActions correct any information you believe is inaccurate. You also have the right to request QuantActions to complete information you believe is incomplete.
  • The right to erasure – You have the right to request that QuantActions erase your personal data, under certain conditions.
  • The right to restrict processing – You have the right to request that QuantActions restrict the processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.
  • The right to object to processing – You have the right to object to QuantActions’ processing your personal data, under certain conditions.
  • The right to data portability – You have the right to request that QuantActions transfer the data that we have collected to another organization, or directly to you, under certain conditions.

If you would like to exercise any of these rights, please contact us at our email: data@quantactions.com. If you make a request, we have one month to respond to you.


For QuantActions App user: If you wish your anonymous data collected through the QuantActions Apps to be removed from the archive:

  • Fill out the account deletion request form. To complete the form, you will need your Participation ID which you can find in the app. If you have uninstalled the app, we will no longer be able to retrieve your ID as it complies with our strict anonymity measures.
  • You are responsible for the deletion of the local data copy on your smartphone, which you can do in the app settings.
  • If you are participating in a data collection program, you can use the account deletion request form to additionally ask us to forward your request for data deletion to the research institution in which you are participating in a study. Note that anonymized data that has already been released to the public (e.g. through publication or release to academic repositories), is exempt from deletion.

We will delete your anonymous data within 1 month after receiving your data deletion request. We will not be able to contact you to confirm data deletion as we have no way of linking your ID to your identity.
